English universities, colleges and schools will provide
a vibrant, creative and challenging environment in
which to develop your potential.
Universities
like Cambridge and Oxford are like magnets that attract
the cream of talent from all over the world.
Entry
dates
Colleges
in the United Kingdom have two main entry dates:
Spring-
January and February
Autumn- August and September
Students
can apply for either of these, though the autumn entry
date is more convenient for the undergraduate as it
coincides with the board examination here in India.
Admission
Requirements
The main entry requirement for undergraduate courses
is completion of the +2 levels or the equivalent-
India's Intermediate course in Commerce, Arts, Science
or Humanities.
Other than this a strong score in the IELTS is also
necessary. In order to be convinced that you can afford
the costs a college can ask you to provide financial
documentation that proves that you are in a position
to pay the fees and the living expenses.
Budgets
English degrees can take only three years and postgraduate
master's courses only one year ' compared with four
years and two years in most other countries. This
means you will save a great deal on both tuition fees
and living costs ' and you will be able to start working
and earning money sooner. English degree courses are
shorter because they are more intensive, and therefore
more efficient in terms of your time and money. Health
care is often free for international students. You
are likely to be able to take advantage of National
Health Service (NHS) treatment, as well as reduced-cost
medicines, dental treatment and eye tests.
Thousands of scholarships and bursaries
are offered by English institutions just for international
students, while more than 21, 000 international students
receive scholarship funding from the UK Government
every year. Under existing work regulations, international
students in England and the rest of the UK can work
up to 20 hours a week when studying and full time
during vacations.
Colleges
and Universities
The UK has two distinct education systems: one for
England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and one for Scotland.
Each is compatible with the other. The Scottish Parliament
has devolved responsibility for education in Scotland.
Wherever you choose to study, you will be able to
study relevant, world-class qualifications of exceptional
quality.
Colleges and Universities in the UK are diverse in
nature. There are universities like Oxford and Cambridge
to which only the best of the best can aspire and
there are also several colleges with BAC (British
Accreditation Council) certification that provide
excellent courses at economic fees.
Part
Time Work
If you are admitted for a course lasting more than
6 months, you may, without a work permit or permission
from the local Job Centre, take part-time or holiday-work,
but you must not:
·-
work for more than 20 hours per week during term time
unless your placement is part of your studies, has
the agreement of the education institution and leads
to a degree or qualification awarded by a nationally
recognised examining body
- do business, be self-employed or provide services
as a professional sportsperson or entertainer
·- work full-time in a permanent job
If
you are admitted for a course lasting 6 months or
less, permission to work is granted at the entry clearance,
or immigration officer's discretion.
Visa
Procedure
A visa is an entry clearance certificate that is placed
in your passport or travel document by an Entry Clearance
Officer at a British mission overseas. The entry clearance
certificate confers leave to enter the UK.
If you have a valid UK visa you will
not normally be refused entry to the UK unless your
circumstances have changed, or you gave false information
or you failed to disclose important facts when you
applied for your visa.
When
you arrive in the UK, an Immigration Officer may question
you, so take all relevant documents in your hand luggage.
